Originally from Venezuela, Gerardo Morantes is a performance, visual artist and educator focused on community and public practice. He has an Arts Agency and Administration degree from The University of Puerto Rico and a Social Communication degree from the University Rafael Belloso Chacin in Venezuela.
He has facilitated art programs as the community manager of the Guggenheim Museum, the coordinator of 92nd Street Y Young Leaders program, and a social-impact music program in the Bronx, UpBeat NYC. He has been awarded the LMCC grant for Creative Engagement (2023) and was part of the Teaching Artist Project (2021).
Gerardo started his performatic practice under the tutelage and support of the performance group PISO Projecto by Noemi Segarra in Puerto Rico in 2014 but upon moving to New York and took a 10 year hiatus, struggling with finance and uprootedness, and finally returned in 2024 to fully embrace the improvisation and political practice of PISO.
